Steps in the Lay Planter Training

1.     Pre-course assessment. Each lay person who registers for the course will be sent an online Pre-course assessment that will help to measure the gifts for planting new faith communities as well as their personal expectations for the course.

2.     Orientation (via Zoom). All registered students for LPT will attend an orientation that will explain the course content and explain how to access the online classes. It will serve to help each student discern whether this course is appropriate.

3.     Ten Online Classes:

  • Why Jesus? (Christology)
  • Why New Disciples? (Missiology)
  • Why New Places? (Ecclesiology)
  • Discerning
  • Visioning
  • Gathering
  • Discipling
  • Worshiping
  • Maturing
  • Multiplying

4.     Project Presentation and Course Celebration Session (via Zoom): Each student will be sent via email instructions on how to complete an executive summary of their plan of action for starting a new ministry, a new expression of church, a new faith community or new church. The final class will include a celebration for completing the course and “break out” sessions (3 students each plus a mentor or conference staff person) when students present their action plans.

Each annual conference will be responsible for managing an interview with students as part of a final assessment process to determine deployment scenarios.

Continuing Education or CLM Specialization

Each online class includes questions for students to answer in a “comment” section. A conference designated person will serve as a moderator and respond to comments. Path1 instructors will also respond to comments. To qualify for CLM continuing education, a student must complete all ten online classes and the project presentation.

To be certified for CLM specialization as a “Lay Planter” each student will complete all ten online classes and complete all of the assignment that are in the study guides for each class. The study guides go into greater depth on class content and include reading assignments. The conference designated mentor will interact and provide feedback for these assignments. Successful completion of all work included in the study guides will qualify for CLM specialization.
